Kicking off the 2014 Season on May 8, 2014

Vino in the Valley, Maiden Rock, WILet’s face it, this year’s winter was brutal, and we haven’t had much of a spring. I think it’s pretty safe to say that you join us in our excitement for Vino in the Valley’s opening on Thursday, May 8. We hope you can make it down for dinner or a glass of wine (or craft beer) during our opening weekend.

Opening weekend: Thursday Sunday, May 8- 11, 2014!

We’ve lined up some of our most popular talent on the entertainment schedule, and you can check our hours here. And as always, for Vino in the Valley news as it happens, you’ll want to like our page on Facebook.

Win a Private Dinner in our Vineyard!

Giveaway FB postAt Vino in the Valley, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting many great people over the last 7 seasons. Friendships are made over a great meal under the Pavilion, while enjoying a glass of wine at Bella Sera, over the crackling flame of a bonfire, and during the clinking of glasses as we sing “That’s Amore”. Like all good friends, we enjoy staying in touch. One way we stay connected with our Vino in the Valley friends is through our Facebook page; our community has grown to over 8200 in the five years since we’ve joined Facebook. We have a lot of laughs and a ton of fun there. It’s been amazing getting to know everyone on a more personal level.

As we approach 10,000 page followers, we decided we wanted to do this BIG; a grand welcome to the new friends we hope to make, and a special thank you to our old friends for all their kindness and support. So we’ve dreamed up the most amazing giveaway!

When Vino in the Valley’s Facebook page hits 10,000 followers, one lucky person will win a private dinner package at Vino in the Valley!

Picture it… A private dinner for two in our vineyard (complete with valley views and full V.I.P. treatment). We’re going for a special and romantic experience here with no detail overlooked; table, mood lighting, flowers. You and your date will enjoy your choice of appetizer, fresh brick oven bread, your choice of entrees, and to finish off the meal, you’ll be served one of our delectable desserts. Where’s the wine, you ask? Don’t worry; we’ll be including a bottle of vino (your choice from our wine list), as well.

Before dinner, your V.I.P. treatment will begin with a private tour of our grounds with Larry Brenner, owner. See the confluence of Lost Creek and the Rush River, hear the story of the great flood of 2010 first hand, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a fly fisherman in mid-cast. One thing is for sure – Larry will make it interesting, entertaining and fun.

Enjoy a leisurely evening with us, and when your visit concludes there will be a bed waiting for you at Journey Inn Bed & Breakfast, located about 15 minutes away near Maiden Rock, WI. Designed as an earth-friendly, soul-pleasing building on 66 acres of prairie, hilly woodland and a spring-fed creek, Journey Inn is a destination that inspires and restores. We couldn’t think of a better way to wrap up your special night!

This prize package could be yours! We’ll be giving it away to one lucky winner by random drawing from among our page followers when our page hits 10,000 fans! Register, and learn how you can earn extra entries, here.

The experience will take place on Thursday, June 5, 2014, and we hope it inspires you to stay for a long and relaxing weekend on the West Coast of Wisconsin. Good luck, and regardless of whether you’re the winner, we look forward to seeing you at Vino in the Valley this season!

Join us for Christmas Weekends!

Christmas 2013FBIf you happened to join us last year for our Christmas weekends, you know it’s purely magical; kind of like walking into a Norman Rockwell painting! If you’ve yet to experience a country Christmas “Vino-style”, you must check it out for yourself… And bring the whole family!

We’ve wrapped up the pavilion for the festivities and our heaters keep things nice and warm.  Enjoy sleigh or wagon rides around the vineyard, visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, or sit by the fire and sing along with local choirs as they perform all the traditional Christmas songs! We will be serving up our famous brick oven Pizzas and Italian Nachos, along with hot Chili to enjoy by the fire, and our Baked Potato Bar.  Oh, and how can we forget the wine?  Yes, the wine will be flowing (as will the hot cocoa for the kids).  And the kiddos will also have to check out our “Cookie Decoration Station”!

Choose your family’s fresh cut Christmas tree provided by Rush River Tree Farm in our Farmer’s Market and visit our gift shop where you can pick up a few bottles (or a case) of your favorite Vino in the Valley wines for hostess gifts and your personal holiday enjoyment.  And don’t forget to bring your gift list and get a few presents handled.  The gift shop is fully stocked with merchandise and you can never go wrong with a Vino Gift Certificate.

Fall Family Weekends Start this Weekend

Fall is coming soon and in the upper Midwest that means we’re on borrowed time; in a matter of days it could turn to winter and we’ll be stuffed indoors for the next 6 months (coming out only for Christmas Season at Vino in the Valley, of course!).  Get out now while you can!  Join us at Vino for our Fall Family Weekends!  We have thousands of gourds and pumpkins to choose from at the lowest prices in the area (and they’re ready now!)…bring the kids and enjoy!  If you’ve only thought of Vino as a summer destination, you’re in for a surprise!  The leaves have turned, the air is cooler, but there is still plenty of fun, food, and wine to be had at Vino in the Valley.  Some people say our great food and wine taste even better during the autumn season.  There’s only one way to find out if the rumors are true.

Hayrides around the vineyard, Farmers Market featuring late season fruits and veggies, as well as honey, candies, jewelry and crafts from area artisans.  Saturdays and Sundays in October.

Update from Rush River Tree Farm

Across the way from Vino in the Valley you can’t help but notice the rows and rows of trees. Rush River Tree Farm was established in 2007 and we’ve planted over 2,000 trees every year since.  Today, we have over 12,000 in the ground, featuring varieties like Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, Colorado Blue Spruce, and Canaan.  We are very excited to now offer Colorado Blue and Green Spruce landscape trees! Available in heights from 3′ – 6′ and sheared for optimal shape and fullness. While most tackle their landscape projects in the spring, fall is actually the perfect time to plant a tree.

And keep us in mind for Christmas! While visitors have enjoyed choosing a tree from our Christmas tree lot the past several years, we’re happy to soon expand our offerings to include “choose and cut your own” allowing you to create some grand holiday traditions.  We’ll be rolling out “choose and cut” trees from our own stock next season, and will offer Rush River Tree Farm pines exclusively by November 2014.

Living Social Reminder

LivingSocialReminderWe just wanted to remind those who have yet to use this year’s Living Social offer that the expiration date is quickly approaching. Our Living Social offer expires on Sunday, October 27 (although, after that date we will still honor your certificate for the $25 amount paid).

As you might expect, with an offer this good, there were a few strings attached… Remember, as stated in the rules on your certificate, only one offer per table or group (sorry, this will be strictly enforced).

Please plan ahead now for your visit (and just in case you missed it… we are already completely booked for seating 3:15pm until close on Saturday, October 12). The ol’ Farmall tractor will be ready for hayrides through the vineyard, and the bonfires will be roarin’! We look forward to seeing everyone!

Meet our Chefs

IMG_9373There are many reasons to visit Vino in the Valley – but if you come for the food you’re bound to leave with a full belly and a smile on your face.  Have you ever wondered who’s at work in the kitchen preparing this Italian fare?  Read on to see the faces behind the food and get to know a little more about them, too.

Erik Hendrickson, Head Chef (pictured, right)
This is Erik’s 7th season at Vino in the Valley. He began is Vino career as a pizza cook, then a line cook, and is now Head Chef/Kitchen Manager. When asked what made him decide to join the kitchen crew, he replied, “It was never really a decision, I started in the restaurant industry at a young age for my first job and continued to gain experience and an appreciation for food.”

His favorite dish to make at Vino is the Shrimp Linguini. “It is a completely made to order entrée with a sequence of steps that creates a white wine butter sauce utilizing our own Moonlight Whisper White wine,” says Erik. But when it’s his turn to eat, you’ll see him going for the Stuffed Mushrooms.

When Erik’s not working for Vino, he works for the County Highway Department. He also enjoys eating out, riding motorcycle, fishing, and spending time with his fiancé, Ali (yes, our Erik is getting married!).

Bryon Wendt, Head Chef (pictured, left)
This is Bryon’s first season at Vino in the Valley but it didn’t take us long to see that he’s a great fit!  He’s fast and he really enjoys being in the kitchen. “I have a joy for cooking and love being creative with it,” says Bryon.  His favorite dish to prepare at Vino is the Portobello Mushroom Ravioli, while this favorite dish to eat is the Pepper Sausage Rustica.  His most requested meal from friends and family is his Turkey Club Soup (we’re wondering if he’d whip up a batch for October weekends?!).

When asked if he had any tips to share, he said, “Cooking is a passion. A lot of good recipes come from trial and error. Never be afraid to try something new.” We don’t know about you, but that sounds like some pretty solid advice to us.

When Bryon’s not working he enjoys spending time with this wife, children, and grandkids (we didn’t think he looked old enough either!).

Mike Mathison, Assistant Chef (pictured, center)
Another important member of our kitchen team this year is Mike. As kitchen expediter, he makes sure each and every dish is complete and beautifully presented before it’s served to our guests.

Mike began his career at Vino in 2010 as a pizza chef, although like many who work in the profession, he began his food service career as a dishwasher many years ago and worked his way up (and around) the restaurants into many different jobs. “That’s one thing that really appeals to me about my current role,” says Mike. “I like variety and I’ve certainly got a lot of it in this position.”

Most of Mike’s focus in the kitchen is on appetizers, and he highly recommends the Stuffed Mushrooms; however, when he’s ordering off the menu for himself, odds are it’s the Portobello Mushroom Ravioli he’ll choose. His sense of humor comes in extremely handy; he’s skilled at keeping everyone laughing in the kitchen. When not on duty at Vino? Well, no wife, kids or girlfriend (yes, ladies, Mike’s “available”), so you’ll find him watching baseball (he’s a White Sox fan).

Vino in the Valley Hosts 4th Annual “Taste of Tuscany” Event

Taste of Tuscany Flier 2013Once again we’re thrilled to be hosting the Ellsworth Community School District Foundation’s annual fundraising event, “Taste of Tuscany”. The event, which will be held at Vino in the Valley on Friday, June 7, 2013, supports the Foundation in their mission to enhance educational opportunities within our community using private revenues. In a time of ever-tightening budgets, supporting this great cause has become more important than ever.

Attendees will enjoy the music of Colleen Raye, a wine tasting, silent auction, and of course, great wine and a delicious dinner. Tickets are $35 and available at Vino in the Valley, Ellsworth School District Office, Nilssen’s Foods, and from Foundation board members.

We not only wish to encourage you to purchase your tickets and attend this worthwhile event, but also want to be sure all our guests are aware that due to this event, general seating for the public will not begin until 8:00pm on Friday, June 7. Our outdoor bar, Bella Sera, will be open beginning at 5:00pm if guests would like to come down to enjoy some wine until seating begins. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors and we look forward to seeing you.
